Unleash more of your natural genius as you access a higher octave of your creative intelligence and find exciting, meaningful and life-enhancing ways to express your creativity.

photo_rose.png

For something that is so essential to our lives, creativity is too often veiled in mystery.

We may wonder, “Is there a secret formula for tapping into the source of new ideas, strategies and creative possibilities?”

The good news is that creativity is your birthright and not a mystery at all. In fact, daily, weekly and monthly practices can get your creative juices flowing on command.

Ramping up your creative capacity has the potential to make your life even more exceptional. When you become a fountain of creativity, you can more easily advance your career and generate exciting new gifts to support the world — all while enhancing your income stream.

Living more creatively generates more pleasure and enjoyment, because expressing your creativity is one of the most exciting, dynamic and fulfilling ways to spend your time.

As you learn how to open yourself to new ideas, perspectives and possibilities, your life becomes a canvas on which you can paint bold new colors.

Too often, creativity experts focus on quick-fix gimmicks, but the secret to accessing your creativity is knowing how to tap into your spiritual intelligence and clear whatever’s blocking your natural genius.

That’s right, the highest octave of your consciousness is the richest source of your creativity. Tapping into this universal intelligence opens you up to the universe of infinite possibilities that flows from the guidance of your soul.

When you open the “download channel” to this higher octave of awareness, you unleash your creative spirit and spontaneously become wildly, joyfully and prodigiously creative!

Like a maestro effortlessly conducting a symphony, you find yourself directing a stream of creative energy to whatever is in front of you. Even daily tasks such as cooking meals become more enjoyable with your creative rocket boosters on!

As you experientially deepen your understanding of creativity, you come to see that you are the co-creator of your life.

The more creatively you design your life, the more freedom and fulfillment you experience.

When your own heart beats in sync with the heartbeat of creation, information becomes inspiration, and creativity can become a sacrament.

Creatively Designing Your Life

In Creativity Unzipped, an exciting new 7-week program from top creativity expert Jan Phillips, you’ll receive valuable psychological and spiritual secrets that will unlock the door to your creative powers.

You’ll let go of limited ideas and creative blocks and get far more passionate about whatever you’re working on. You’ll give yourself permission to feel more fully, letting your natural desires magnetize the circumstances to fulfill your dreams.

What you’ll ultimately discover is that your most important creative work in progress is your LIFE.

YOU are your most important masterwork, and when you learn how to engage your life more artfully and with more panache, you’ll design a far more delicious life.

And since your thoughts determine your choices, which determine your actions, which determine your experiences and the quality of your life, the best way to uplevel your life is to start adding creative juice to your thoughts.

Jan will help you connect the dots between creativity, spiritual intelligence and engagement in society, and build practices into your life that free up your natural creativity.

She’ll illuminate how to bring mindfulness into your day and creativity into your career. She’ll also show you why conscious creativity is the new activism, going beyond the arts into ever-expanding waves of possibility.

Jan herself has developed virtually boundless creativity. Just this year, she decided to take a sabbatical and in just a few months wrote TWO new books, even though she was planning on relaxing.

When your creative channels are that wide open, great ideas pour through you and even the drudge work of big projects becomes a joy.

A teacher like Jan, who has lived a wildly creative life and taught thousands how to be more creative, is so valuable because she knows exactly what you need to do and what you need to let go of to discover your authentic creative voice.

And Jan certainly practices what she teaches! She’s a writer, musician, photographer and activist who has taught in 23 countries, written 10 award-winning books on creativity, spirituality and thought leadership, created 3 CDs of original music and developed a YouTube channel of videos. Her books include No Ordinary Time, Finding the On-Ramp to Your Spiritual Path, The Art of Original Thinking and Divining the Body.

She’s the founder and Executive Director of the Livingkindness Foundation, which built the Livingkindness Centre for Learning in Ikuzeh, Nigeria. Jan has performed with Pete Seeger, taught with Jane Goodall, worked for Mother Teresa and sung to Gladys Knight.

Her work on creativity incorporates science, humor, research and the arts, making her a dynamic speaker and truth-teller who will “tell it like it is.” She’ll have you laughing while you’re letting go of old ideas and limiting beliefs that have kept your creative genius from expressing itself fully.

Each weekly, LIVE contemplation and training session will build harmoniously upon the next so that you’ll develop a complete, holistic understanding of the practices, tools and principles you’ll need to sustain your courage and commitment to self-expression.

Module 1: Inquire Within: Understanding Your Creative Blocks (June 21)

week1.png

People have been trying to shape your thoughts since the day you were born. Well-intentioned parents, teachers, clergy and coaches have tried their best to fashion you in their image, to keep you from standing too close to the edge, to keep you safe and on a well-worn path. Who in your life encouraged you to find your authentic voice, to identify your own spiritual path, or to express yourself creatively? It doesn’t matter who or what is to blame for our shyness in the matter, but it does matter that we explore our leanings and find ways to express what is most uniquely ours: our thoughts, our values, our visions.

In this module, you’ll:

  • Redefine creativity so you understand your role and birthright as a creator
  • Explore different pathways to self-expression and see what brings the most joy
  • Clarify the distinction between religion and spirituality and find a path that brings you vitality and value
  • Discover what’s behind places where you have a “lack of inspiration” and how to move beyond it
  • Explore the components of creativity and discover where they dwell inside you
  • Get a clear picture of how your thoughts create your reality

Module 2: Why Mindfulness Matters
(June 28)

week2.png

Many people are seeking enlightenment, but the mystics refer to the process as one of “subtraction, not addition.” We do not have to learn things to become enlightened. We have to drop our illusions and return to our natural state of knowing. Think of it like this: we were all born with the radiance of a 100-watt bulb. As we go through life, our radiance diminishes as we accumulate bad ideas, debris and damage from others’ bad ideas, and dirt and grime from the culture at large. Mindfulness is the practice of dusting off our light bulb. It’s how we stay radiant, remain peaceful and stay rooted in our wisdom.

In this module, you’ll:

  • Identify behaviors that cause you to feel calm and peaceful
  • Explore different approaches to mindfulness that work for different personalities
  • Discover how a small time commitment can lead to huge changes in wellbeing
  • Read the words of the mystics on the importance of silence and solitude
  • Establish your own guidelines and rules for a committed practice
  • Receive inspiration from some before-and-after stories about mindfulness practice

Module 3: Why Your Creativity Has Value for You & Others (July 5)

week3.png

When you tell the truth about how you feel, what you love or what you fear, you’re creating an opening for someone to trust you. When you dare to share something you’ve made, written, cooked or cultivated, you’re giving others permission to do the same. The things we create — from our lives to our relationships to our works of art — heal us as we create them, and then go on to heal others with their energy and their loveliness.

In this module, you’ll:

  • Explore the many ways we create all day long though we might not feel “creative”
  • Discover the relationship between creativity and wellbeing
  • Look back at your childhood to recall some of your early creations and see if they have a message for you
  • Share some works of art (books, movies, stories, etc.) that had a lasting impact on you
  • Discuss art as it relates to the social practice movement and share about its impact
  • Decide what you’d share if you were to deliver a 15-minute talk to a group of high school graduates

Module 4: The Genius of Diversity (July 12)

week4.png

Social science research shows that the more diversity there is in a group, the more collective creative genius resides in that group. A group of 10 white men is far less creative than a group of 10 women and men from many cultures, religions and political inclinations. The same is true in our lives. Social psychologist Anthony DeMello said, “The greatest thing you can do for your friends is to challenge their ideas.” It may not be easy, but it’s true. According to French poet Charles Baudelaire, the quality of true genius is the ability to hold two contradictory thoughts in your mind at the same time without losing your mind.

In this module, you’ll:

  • Experience the transcendence of duality by re-pairing some opposites and see what it feels like
  • Understand how to distinguish original thoughts from inherited thoughts
  • Discover how to stop comparing yourself to others
  • See what the scientists and mystics have to say about diversity
  • Inquire into your own life to assess your diversity index
  • Reflect on some life experiences that involve interactions with “the other”

Module 5: Getting Your Own
Story Straight
(July 19)

week5.png

By now, we are understanding the many ways we create the events of our lives. With the help of a short guided meditation, we’ll identify the pivotal experiences of our lives and see what wisdom we’ve acquired because of them. We’ll explore the meaning and value of story-spinning and come to recognize when we are at the true end of each story.

In this module, you’ll:

  • Distill and harvest the pivotal experiences of your life
  • Discover the difference between something happening “to” you and “through” you
  • Identify the rules of great storytelling
  • Guide you to evolve yourself consciously by reclaiming the events of your life
  • Turn your electromagnetic field into a more powerful force for good
  • Experience the power and healing component of narrative medicine

Module 6: Believing Is Seeing: Why Your Life Is Turning Out Like It Is (July 26)

week6.png

Scientific research has identified desire as a powerful agent in creativity. While many of us learned that desire was more a vice than a virtue, we now know better. In a scientific experiment, a group of baby chicks who were afraid of the dark huddled together in a corner of the room where a robot, programmed for random movements, entered carrying a lighted candle. Though programmed absolutely to move in random directions, the experimenters observed the robot spending an inordinate amount of time in the vicinity of the chicks. The power of their desire for the light superseded the programming the robot was given. With focus, intention and desire, all things are possible.

In this module, you’ll:

  • Inquire within and see what you truly desire
  • Merge your heart’s desire with what breaks your heart to see what new synthesis comes from that union
  • Understand the way that reality proceeds from the union of your thoughts and desires
  • Be introduced to amazing experiments and discoveries that reveal the science behind the magic of the power of mind
  • Discover how to tone your mindfulness muscles and create what you are longing for

Module 7: Conscious Creativity: Your Spirituality in Running Shoes (August 2)

week7.png

Every one of us is an energetic, spiritual force in the world. We cause ripples in the invisible energy field. We cause changes in people’s thoughts. We cause emotions to rise up, memories to stir, feelings to come alive. The more consciousness we bring to the matter, the more laser-like our effect. Our creations are rooted in our spiritual values and commitments. They are the living expressions of our faith.

In this module, you’ll:

  • Identify and share the playing fields of your creativity
  • Explore three things you know because of your life’s experience
  • Identify one belief you hold and tell the story behind it
  • Discover how to replace outmoded inherited beliefs with original thoughts
  • Discern and identify your “ultimate commitments” with the help of a creative exercise
  • Improve your skills in knowing your truth and speaking it clearly

No Ordinary Time: The Rise of Spiritual Intelligence & Evolutionary Creativity
Ebook from Jan Phillips

NOOrdinaryTime.png

No Ordinary Time is a tapestry of threads from the arts, science, sacred texts and Jan’s own mystical poetry. It’s the story of one woman’s journey from Catholicism to a new cosmology of global communion and co-creation. It’s Rumi meets Teilhard, Catherine of Siena meets Dorothy Day, a compelling illustration of how spiritual practice leads to heightened creativity, which leads to inspired evolutionary action.

Jan is an amazing facilitator and teacher. Her presence and ability to connect with each person in the first few moments of the workshop set the tone for the entire weekend. She inspired us to mine our life stories for the golden nuggets of our experiences and then use them to commit to our sacred action in the world. Jan is an enthusiastic, intelligent speaker with a gift for responding to questions thoughtfully and clearly. It is evident she is deeply spiritual and brings a quality of centeredness to her work.

She midwifes Spirit-led passion and then guides the co-creative process between diverse parts (minds or communities) to manifest a new creation that expresses something greater than the sum of its parts. It is something innovative and exciting; something that is a blessing to the world and all who are part of the creation. Simply, it is thrilling.
– Rev. Melanie Burns, Spiritual Director, Religious Science Naples Florida

There are many people presenting workshops on creativity these days, but few can match the power of Jan Phillips. Jan’s workshop is an uplifting experience for anyone seeking to live a more creative life.
– Daniel Douglas, Minister, Unity Church of Today, Syracuse, NY

Leadership is both a precious and rare commodity in our society. Jan Phillips outlines the gifts that creative leadership requires and issues a call for people to step into that vision. The future of the human experiment might well depend on who and how many will answer that call.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a virtual course?
A: It’s a great way to engage live teachings and each other from the comfort of your home! All you need is a phone line (or an equivalent voice service). If there is more than one person in your household taking the course, you will each need your own line. We use MaestroConference to make it just like an in-person event, where you can ask questions, participate in groups and deepen your exploration of the course themes.

Please note that dialing MaestroConference from your phone is a regular toll call to California; your telephone service provider will charge you according to your existing long-distance calling plan. You can also use Skype credit/subscription or Google Voice to dial in to MaestroConference; and you’ll need to use your virtual keypad to enter your PIN and to indicate that you want to ask a question. Other options include calling cards and discount long-distance carriers; and we also have a webcast which is free to use from anywhere in the world.

I have never participated before in an online course. The packaging, presentation, inclusion and Facebook postings created a wonderful, safe cocoon to participate. I haven’t seen a course so well put together ever — not in all the years of taking college classes — and I had my doubts about doing an online course. The wealth of organization and ease of learning materials and support made this fun as well.
– Claudia F., Medford, MA

Q: Can I get benefit from the course if I miss the live classes?
A: Absolutely! You can download the recordings and transcripts of all course sessions from our online media archive, so you never need to worry about missing live calls. You can also engage the full community and leaders on our private community website.

Q: Can you tell me about the Private Course Group?
A: We will have a private community group for all course participants on Facebook that will support you in making connections with others, sharing insights, engaging in discussions, completing homework assignments and exchanging information about events and other activities that can supplement your transformational journey. You’ll have the ability to share your experiences, projects and growth throughout the Course.

Q: Are there scholarships available for this Training?
A: Yes, we always make a certain percentage of spaces available for partial scholarships, giving preference to those in developing countries or doing important but underpaid work to which they can apply the training material immediately. If you would like to apply for a scholarship, please review our guidelines, which include a link to our online application form.
